Failed States

"But the truth is that the birth of Kosovo is also a profound testament of the failure of the nation state form in Europe to accommodate ethnic diversity. [. . . ] every unsavoury separatist is gloating."
This is the punch-line of an essay by political theorist Pratap Mehta in Indian Express this week. Pratap reflects on the implicaitons of the Kosovo independence movement for the prospects of multi-ethnic democracies in a typically smart way.
