Against Authenticity

"The very idea of authenticity . . . is bogus." So says philosopher Alva Noë here. I have made arguments to just this effect* and so could not agree more.

While I agree regarding authenticity, I think both Noë and (obviously) Brooks are off the mark regarding Springsteen. Though reading Brooks' column did result in an enjoyable mental image of the results of Romney attempting to process "be more authentic, act like Bruce Springsteen."
