Israelis Endorsing the Boycott Movement

I have not been a proponent of boycotting Israel. My view - as I've made clear here repeatedly - has been that it is more effective, given the chance, to go, engage Israelis, and challenge their occupation and systematic oppression of Palestinians. This essay by Gordon Levy at Ha'aretz, a relatively mainstream news outlet, suggests how narrow the view of Israeli politics tends to be from the vantage point of the US; but his argument also raises the possibility that there may well be no one left with whom to engage. Of course, that presents problems for those who advocate policies of boycott and divestment as well. For such policies requires some uptake if they are to be noticed and effective in Israel and they risk inducing reaction that will further constrict the space for public, democratic debate there.
