Inventing Political Symbols

I missed the report on Democracy Now! marking the 50th anniversary of invention of the Peace symbol. This is not a date that was much noticed. A google search brings up a number of articles in smallish newspapers but nothing from major media outlets. Surprise. It is interesting how identifiable graphic artists literally invent symbols that go on to accumulate immense power. Gerald Holtom is credited with designing the peace symbol in 1958. Here is another example:

Jerzy Janiszewski a graphic artist from Gdansk invented this logo in 1980. I am sure there are many other examples.
