Disclosing Mystery Rather than Providing Information ~ Raghu Rai

It is remarkable how frequently I come across photographers whom I could not name but whose work I have seen. The image above offers a case in point. This past weekend The Guardian ran this short interview with Magnum photographer Raghu Rai, accompanied by this slide show of his work.

Isn't it interesting that some photographs are part of a kind of collective subconscious (such as this one from Bhopal) but the photographer's name is rarely registered while there are some photographers whose name is more easily recognised than their work. I wonder if there is some kind of inverse photographic content/celebrity photographer relationship...
