Pyotr Pavlensky's Painful Protest

"Red Square has seen a lot over the centuries, from public executions to giant military parades, but a performance artist broke new ground on Sunday when he nailed his scrotum to cobblestones in a painful act of protest" (source).
So, I get why this guy nailing his nuts to the pavement is a protest. But why is it art?

In that case do you think what the Voina art group or the Pussy riot or the Ztohoven does is also not art?

I think you raise a good question. I suppose that would be a case-by-case issue. Did the 'performance' that got the 3 women from Pussy Riot arrested constitute 'art'? Perhaps. But perhaps it was just a protest pure and simple.

I have to agree with you on that.
